“A Series of Disasters” is a public installation of vinyl photographic prints that each represent a climate disaster that has occurred in the year 2025. These images have been taken from news articles published across the globe which report on events that are direct symptoms of climate change, particularly relating to the life/quality of life threatening consequences of natural disasters, weather extremes, and economic/social disruptions. The prints are meant to bring these, seemingly, distant happenings out of our phone, computer, and TV screens and into the cityscape of Atlanta where they can portray the inevitable effects of the climate crisis coming to our own city. Inspired by a viral anonymous quote from Twitter stating “Climate change will manifest as a series of disasters viewed through phones with footage that gets closer and closer to where you live until you’re the one filming it”, Pilar Studios has taken this concept into a physical realm to illustrate the reality of humanity’s disassociation with these topics and their unsettling ramifications.
“A Series of Disasters” was created based on this viral quote from an anonymous tweet^
